Welcome Darren fans!   I created this fan forum devoted to discussion of Darren Criss's career and public activities, because I wanted a Darren-friendly and Darren-centric place for his fans to gather to celebrate this wonderful and talented human being.   I hope that you introduce yourselves, and that together we are able to create an active community that is warm and welcoming.  :happy face

1.  When did you become a fan of Darren?   I became a fan of Darren through Glee, when the charming, charismatic Blaine Anderson, with his warm voice, was first introduced to us.

2.  Why did you become a fan of Darren?   I first became a fan of Darren, when I noticed how quirky and funny he is, during his interviews, and on the red carpet for different events.   I became a devoted fan when I noticed how kind he was, both to his individual fans and in terms of how much time and energy he committed to charitable causes, to helping others.

3.  What would you like Darren to focus on, in terms of his future career?   I'm honestly torn.   For selfish reasons, I would love to see him do films, since that is more accessible to me than theater (on Broadway).   Plus, I love films.  I also would love to see him release an album.  I really enjoy his music.  I think he is a talented composer.  I also find Darren's voice to be special, in terms of how much positive energy, warmth, and emotion his voice holds.    Most of all, I want Darren to be happy.  So if theater makes him the happiest, then I'm all for supporting his choices and living his life for himself.  :happy face

4.  Of his past projects, which are your favorite?    Blaine Anderson is special to me.  I really bonded with the character.  I loved how sweet, kind, supportive, enthusiastic, hard-working, and positive Blaine was.   I loved how he triumphed over his obstacles, over the bigotry and violence that he experienced, and yet retained his positive and kind attitude.   I also was impressed with how likeable and warm the character Lee was in Girl Most Likely.   One of the critics noted that as Lee, Darren could make "warm as the new hot."   ha!   Yet, it was Hedwig and the Angry Inch that I felt allowed Darren the most opportunity to demonstrate his acting talent.   His ability to touch me with his portrayal of Hedwig, as Hedwig sought love and acceptance from others and then from herself, was just astounding.    I should also note that when Darren made the studio version of "Not Alone" available to those who purchased his shirt, I was so happy!

Hi Lin2!

So nice to see you here!   welcome   :hello

I appreciate your joining this nice little group of Darren fans.    :for you sunny

I will look for the (friendly) ghost of Lin1.  If I find her, I'll delete her for you.  Is that ok?

Yes, please feel free to delete. Could you maybe also rename me to just Lin so I don't have to feel second-best to my former self that never was? :laughing

1.  When did you become a fan of Darren?
Early 2011, when I was watching Glee and realised I knew that guy from that Harry Potter thing on Youtube that I had liked but never finished watching and then finally finished watching.
2.  Why did you become a fan of Darren?
I don't know...
Welcome Everyone! Tumblr_lvjgvuRqCQ1qkzwfeo2_r1_250 (gif)
(I tried typing out an earnest answer about how talented and charming and down-to-earth ... and and and ... he is, but it ended up basically sounding like that.)
3.  What would you like Darren to focus on, in terms of his future career?
Keep mixing it up! I'm honestly not picky as long as I get to enjoy the result in some form.
4.  Of his past projects, which are your favorite?
As a big Harry Potter fan, AVPM/S will always have a special place in my heart. Glee, duh, if only for giving us a weekly dose of Darren's face and voice for so long. And Hedwig was a great showcase for his talent, even though I didn't (/won't) get to see it in person.

So I never found your ghost of Lin1.  Just a mystery, she must have seeped back into the general internet. confused   Thank goodness, for I may have felt a little bad deleting her.  :amused

Really, that is so true, whatever he chooses to do, whether it's focus on his music via an album/concerts/tour, or focus on his acting, via theater/films/TV, it really doesn't matter.   Variety is a good thing.

Oh, you and Lilikoiluv have a love for AVPM/S in common!   So you saw AVPM before you saw Glee, and then after watching Glee, you realized Darren was the same guy on AVPM?   That is so cool.   I saw him through Glee first, and then went back and looked for his past work, and came upon his StarKid stuff.

Thanks for your answers, Lin.  It's fun chatting with you.  :happy face

I had only seen the first few parts of AVPM because I wasn't used to watching longer videos on my computer and also because my English wasn't good enough to understand everything, so I kind of forgot about it and only rediscovered it after watching Glee. It was really the mix of both of them that made me fall in love with Darren.

I had tried to register as another account, just to see if it worked and had no problem.    But you got a weird glitch.   I'm sorry about that.   And yeah, it's strange .   I got an email notification of a new registration, Lin.  But then Lin never appeared here as a member.    Lin, thanks for persisting and registering under a different email address/name.  I really appreciate it! applause  :thank you

Ha!  She's haunting some other site.    :amused   And you're welcome!  My pleasure.  Let me know if you need help for anything.  (You can use this cute little guy if you do.   :help   )  I'm glad to have company!!!   :happy face

It's funny, how these connections are made.  I have a niece who loves, loves, loves Disney.   One day she was raving about this guy who posts on Youtube, his videos of him singing in his bedroom all her favorite Disney songs.   ha!  Years later, I realize it was Darren she was talking about, after I became a fan of his by seeing him on Glee.

Lin wrote:It was really the mix of both of them that made me fall in love with Darren.

This made me go, "awwww."    It's really nice to see people fall in love with Darren not just from Glee, but from his other work, like his StarKid shows too (as well as for the kind of person he is, sweet, kind, intelligent, quirky, funny, and . . . oh, wait, I'm getting side-tracked here :amused   ), especially the first work that they did, AVPM.    After I became a fan of Darren through seeing him on Glee, I went back and looked him up.  I was happy that he had so much material online for me to watch.  He was so funny in AVPM.  I also really liked him in Eastwick.  He was so adorkable in Eastwick!   Like in this scene:   :biggrin.png:

By the way, that gif that you used, do you know what show was that from?

It's from a short film called Walker Phillips (I had to look the title up, too). There's two short clips you can find on DCN or YouTube, but the rest isn't available anywhere because the director apparently wasn't very proud of it and took it down.

Hello everybody. Here are my answers :happy face

1.  When did you become a fan of Darren? In the winter 2013-2014, when I began to watch Glee.
2.  Why did you become a fan of Darren? The fact he was Blaine in Glee plays a big role but I also think he's an amazing actor, an amazing singer-performer, an extremely charming guy and a nice songwriter.
3.  What would you like Darren to focus on, in terms of his future career? I want a come back in a TV show (in another Ryan Murphy show, for example) and at least one album.
4.  Of his past projects, which are your favorite? Glee ! Blaine may be my favourite character of all time.

How nice to see you here Jeremy!   Welcome!  welcome   :hello

So you started watching Glee sometime during Season 4?    One of my favorite seasons, so much Blaine and Blam!   When did you become part of the Glee fandom?

Jeremy wrote:Why did you become a fan of Darren? The fact he was Blaine in Glee plays a big role but I also think he's an amazing actor, an amazing singer-performer, an extremely charming guy and a nice songwriter.

Yes to everything you said.  Darren is so talented in so many ways, actor, musician, musical performer, songwriter/composer--he's such a Renaissance man--and is also an extremely charismatic guy too.

Jeremy wrote:3.  What would you like Darren to focus on, in terms of his future career? I want a come back in a TV show (in another Ryan Murphy show, for example) and at least one album.

It would be so nice to see him on our TV sets every week again, wouldn't it?   I love that Ryan had Darren on AHS.  I hope they continue to work together.  And count me in, I want an album too!   I believe it will happen at some point, and then we can listen to more of his original music to our hearts' content.    :love

This made me go, "awwww."    That's so nice to hear.   I adore Blaine.  I really bonded with him.

Hi Poppy!

Thanks for the invite! Here are my answers:

1. I became a fan of Darren when I first saw Blaine on those Dalton stairs in season two. He just immediately drew me in, so much so I just went "Who is that??" The boy just oozes charisma.

2. Because he's such a cool, chill yet energetic dude, he is super adorable, quirky and funny and just a little ray of sunshine that can brighten up even the cloudiest day (and we have many of those in Britain!). I also love his voice and think he is super talented.

3. For selfish reasons, I wish he could do something that is more accessible for us foreigners, meaning films, tv shows or music. I am still waiting for that album! I also think he has such a knack for composition and song writing that I would love him to compose a musical (a proper musical not a Starkid parody) at some stage. Think he would nail that.

4. Oh this is a difficult one, I guess I will have to say Blaine, though I had huge problems with how his character was written at times. Like you Poppy I also loved his portrayal of Lee in Imogen, boy, was he delish in that, and I found him hilarious in AHS. I'm gutted I didn't get to experience his Hedwig, if I had, that would no doubt be right up there. The songs I've heard from that are fantastic!

Yup, Darren oozed charisma in that scene.   I remember even my husband, who was more of a general audience member than a fan, asked who was that guy and commented how well done was the performance of "Teenage Dream."

dusty, did you see A Very Potter Musical after you saw Darren on Glee?

Yes, his humor and quirkiness also were the first things to draw me in.   I happen to be a big fan of adorkable people.  I also like how he is easy-going and down-to-earth, yet has such a great work ethic.  Aw, he is a like a ray of sunshine (to brighten up those cloudy London days).  In fact, I was going through a tough time when he appeared on Glee, and his positivity was one of the things that helped me at that time.  And I agree, he is so talented, with a wonderful, unique singing voice.  :love

I can completely understand where you are coming from, dusty.  Films, TV, and music are definitely more accessible to his international fans.  (BTW, we now have a member from Germany, one from Brussels and one from London.  :happy face  I'm from California.  Lilikoiluv didn't say where she is from, but wherever it is, it's nice and sunny, because she's a ball of sunshine too.)   I agree with you that I think he is talented as a composer and it would be soooo wonderful if he would compose a musical!    He can start with regional theater or off-Broadway. I think he would do really well if he ever chose to do that and was able to get funding behind him.   I am confident we will get that album.   It will happen!  I just know it!

Yes, Blaine will always be special to me too.   ❤   Darren did a good job of portraying Blaine in such a way that people really bonded with the character.  Yes, he was funny in AHS!  So obnoxious and rude.   Darren must have had so much fun playing such a different character, as well as acting with someone as respected as Kathy Bates.   I hope someday, some how, Darren can play Hedwig at the West End or another location overseas.    Cross our fingers!   Given how much Darren loves Hedwig and the Angry Inch, it may happen at some point.  I agree, he put so much emotion into the songs from Hedwig and he sounded wonderful in them.

So glad that you are here to engage in conversations about Darren and other things, like TV shows, films and music, dusty!   Thank you for joining this little forum!   I appreciate it!

I think theater in general is more costly to go to, although some people seem very skilled at finding ways to get discounted tickets.  Shows on Broadway can be hard to get to and expensive, especially if you do not live on the East coast.

It was great that Darren was able to be a part of The Little Mermaid in Concert in L.A., for some of the west coast fans.   And doing the L.A. and SF venues for the Hedwig tour is also a treat for west coast fans.  Hopefully, some day he can do something overseas.  :fingers crossed   He really is something to watch on stage.  You can see how much he relishes that interaction with the audience.

And fortunately, Darren is also a Renaissance man.  So I hope he mixes it all up:  Some theater, some films, some TV appearances/roles, and some music (including an album and a tour).    I think being in film and on TV, as well as releasing his original music and touring will allow him to reach a broader range of fans since film, TV and music are more accessible, which will help him with selling those tickets for his theater projects.

Hi Poppy! :hello

Yes, I saw the Harry Potter m,usical after discovering him on Glee. I'm a huge Potter fan (even embarrassingly queued up for the last Potter book at midnight when it first came out! To be fair I was heading home from the pub and spotted the queue outside a bookshop and hearing they were waiting for the new Potter book, I just had to join in!)

ANyways, thought the Starkid musical was fun, great music, but rough around the edges, though charmingly so. It is pretty impressive what they have managed to achieve of the back of that. It completely took on a life of its own.

I'm sorry to hear you went through a tough time. :hug Glad you're out of it now. I have heard a lot of people say DC has been helping them through tough times. I guess it is because he seems to have such a positive influence. Though it's currently not working its charm on these grey London skies. It's chucking it down here.

I hope you are right about that elusive album. I love his voice and have been waiting pretty (im)patiently for it! He really does have a knack for composing. I remember reading a fan report from someone who met him during season three (think it was at the filming of the Ben scene) and she told her that she was singing Coolest Girl at some talent show competition or whatever it was, and he was chuffed and told her that that is where his heart truly lies or something to that effect. Can't recall the precise wording. But that passion does show. I also think he has shown progress from the starkid stuff to This Time. Imagine if he got to compose a Disney musical? Poor boy would explode! Speaking of musicals, I was so impressed with his Hedwig recordings. I was hesitant when he first got the role, as I wasn't sure he could pull of the rock. I mean some of those songs are almost raw punk. But boy did he deliver! On a personal note, I was delighted as I love the rock/punk genre, almost got my hopes up he'd might move more iin that direction on his album!  Lol!

I wish that too. But I think going to see Darren on stage is also difficult for some Americans.
Hi Jeremy! :hello

Yes, that is true. Theatre can be expensive. Not everyone can afford it. Also if you live in another state, then obviously there are flights etc involved.

Poppy, speaking of his live performances....I was lucky enough to see Darren live when he held a concert here in London after the Glee tour. Maybe I should have put that on my list of favourite Darren projects. he was pretty mesmerising and totally held the entire crowd. I was also struck by how much power he had in his voice. I was used to him singing these soft pop songs on Glee and here he was belting! That was the concert btw where the crowd sang Darren instead of Sami. It was pretty touching. Basically whilst we were all queuing up to get into the gig these two girls went down the entire crowd asking everyone to sing Darren instead of Sami in the song. And by the sound of it the entire crowd obliged! It was pretty cool. The sap that I am, I got a lump in my throat. It must have been pretty cool for him to have an entire crowd in a foreign country showing their appreciation like that.
