Computer Games has been nominated for Macy's iHeartRadio Rising Star 2017.  You can vote by Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Google Plus and iHeart.

Note:  You also can enter for a chance to win a VIP trip for two to the 2017 iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, where you will see the winning band perform live (by voting, you are automatically entered to win the VIP trip).  :happy face

This would be a great opportunity for Darren and Chuck to perform in the iHeartRadio Music Festival!  So guys, vote!  You can vote up to 50 times per day per category (Twitter vs. Instagram vs. Facebook vs. Google Plus vs. iHeart).

VOTE FOR COMPUTER GAMES!!  Don't forget you can vote 50 times per Day  PER CATEGORY!

So if I'm reading this correctly, that means you can vote 50 times on Facebook, then 50 more times on Twitter, then 50 more times on Instagram, etc., so you can vote many more times than just 50 times/day.

COMPUTER GAMES
As high school kids, Darren Criss and his older brother Chuck spent nearly every afternoon playing music in their basement for hours upon hours. With Chuck on guitar and Darren on drums, the San Francisco natives tapped into everything from British power-pop to Bay Area punk to create their own rowdy breed of garage rock. Though they’d always planned on forming a bona-fide band together, each ended up striking out on his own path: Darren embarked on a singing/acting career that’s included the creation of YouTube sensation StarKid, starring on Glee and in the next season of American Crime Story, and a string of successes on the Broadway stage. Meanwhile, Chuck joined acclaimed indie-rock act Freelance Whales, with whom he recorded and toured with as a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter for several years. But in 2016, the two finally decided it was the right time to revisit their teenage ambitions and launch a guitar-fueled alt-pop band that they’ve named Computer Games.

Cute video by iHeartRadio.  Looks like it was filmed on the day they had their launch party/concert in NYC.  Love the little bit about how the ring tone of Darren's mom is "Teenage Dream."    :love So cute!  You sorta do look like Ninja Turtles with the head bands.  :amused

This is an important message from the fans who run the Computer Games Street Team blog (it's sorta long, so I'll break the message down into parts to make it easier on your eyes):

From dailydarrennews:

Computer Games Street Team wrote:

Computer Games have entered a contest that runs from
May 10th through July 3rd.

If they win this contest, they will be the OPENING ACT for the worldwide streamed iHeart Radio Music Festival, which means BIG EXPOSURE for the band.

We have the power to make this happen for Chuck and Darren via a combined voting effort. Here is how you can help:

# 1: MACY’S IHEART RADIO VOTING PAGE[ http://www.iheartradio.com/risingstar ]

The official Macy’s iHeart Radio Rising Star page is a quick way to submit a spurt of 50 votes to the band.

You are given the option to submit 50 votes max per Facebook/Instagram/Twitter/Google+/iHeart Radio account you have.

That means that if you have one of all five of these types of accounts, you can submit a total of 250 votes per day for Computer Games.

Simply refresh the page to log into/submit votes with another account!

If you are mobile, don’t open the page through the twitter app! You’ll experience problems! Open it through Safari/Google/preferred mobile browser.

You will know that your votes went through when you see this:

Go ahead and share the post for an extra vote!

Every new voting day begins at 12AM EST and ends at 11:59PM EST.

If you have more than one of each of these accounts (i.e. 3 Twitter accounts and 2 Instagrams) that means that’s another 50 votes max per day, per account, that you can submit!

USE ALL YOUR ACCOUNTS EVERY DAY. THIS INCLUDES SAVED ACCOUNTS.

BUT THERE’S MORE YOU CAN DO:

You have a max of 50 votes each day per account [for purposes of entering the sweepstakes for you to attend the Music Festival], but that’s just the easy voting numbers you can give the band! When you submit those votes, you’re also being entered into a sweepstakes to attend this Music Festival. That’s where the entry limit comes in.

YOU CAN STILL SUBMIT MORE VOTES ON YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA; they just aren’t entries for the sweepstakes!

My Note:  So guys, you can vote MORE than 50 times per day, per social media account!

Only 50 votes per day, per social media account, is counted for purposes of you entering into the sweepstakes for you to attend the Music Festival.

But any additional votes (over 50 per account) still are counted for:  Purposes of trying to get Computer Games into the Top 5 bands/music artists--so that Darren and Chuck can move onto the next stage of this contest!

So vote as many times as you can per day for Computer Games!

***
:thank you

Compuer Games Street Team wrote:
# 2: TWITTER

On Twitter, there are three ways for your votes to count towards this contest. Your tweet MUST INCLUDE #RisingStar PLUS, either Computer Games, #ComputerGames or @weplaycomputers, AND must also be tweeted from a PUBLIC account. This applies for all retweets. If your account isn’t public, none of your tweets or retweets will count.

To clarify, your tweet can say:
“Sending in my Computer Games vote for #RisingStar”

“Sending in my #ComputerGames vote for #RisingStar”

“Sending in my @weplaycomputers vote for #RisingStar”

“I just dropped a jar of pickles, whoops.  #ComputerGames #RisingStar”

AND ALL OF THESE TWEETS WOULD COUNT, as long as your account is public.

You can tweet and retweet an UNLIMITED amount of times, so have fun with it!

If you don’t mind it, go ahead and like this tweet as well so other fans know that it’s okay for you to send votes to your mentions instead of spamming up their friends’ twitter timelines:

*** applause

Computer Games Street Team wrote:
# 3:  TWEETDECK

Remember your saved accounts? They still have more use! If you have saved Twitter accounts available, there is a web application called Tweetdeck that allows you to be logged into multiple accounts at once and tweet/retweet from them simultaneously. I highly recommend that you use this application for mass voting efforts. It’s super easy to use as well!

First, go to tweetdeck.twitter.com and log into an account. I have my personal account as my main account and the many other accounts I run were added on for easy access.

Once you’ve added all your accounts to Tweetdeck, you can start tweeting, selecting certain ones or all of them:

You can even retweet from all the accounts simultaneously with little effort:

So put those saved accounts to good use and let’s rack up some votes!

*** thumbs up

Computer Games Street Team wrote:
# 4: INSTAGRAM/FACEBOOK

To put it simply, if you can share it and post it publicly, you should.

Just make sure to include #RisingStar, PLUS [either] Computer Games, @weplaycomputers OR #ComputerGames somewhere in the post.

It’s important to note that the contest has two voting periods.

Voting Period One:

6/4/2017 at 11:59pm ET - Voting on Top 10 Ends

Voting Period Two:

7/2/2017 at 11:59pm ET - Voting on Final 5 Ends

WE HAVE TO KEEP COMPUTER GAMES IN THE TOP FIVE TO MAKE IT TO VOTING PERIOD TWO.

After Voting Period One ends, the votes will reset back to 0, putting us at a fair playing field once again [at the start of Voting Period Two].

This contest is a long one, so we don’t recommend burning yourself out right away, but if we want to give this opportunity to Computer Games, we have to be persistent and keep pushing for more votes! You will have us as cheerleaders the entire time and we have every faith in our fellow Gamers!

Please share this post
and let’s grab the top score for Computer Games!

Well, so far, Darren is in second place for Macy's iHeartRadio Rising Star contest.   :happy face   applause

As the Computer Games Street Team said, we need to have Computer Games in the Top Five, in order for Computer Games to advance to the next round of competition.   :fingers crossed

One thing I noticed about the Twitter accounts for the majority of the music artists who were nominated to be in Macy's iHeartRadio Rising Star contest:  Many of them had either the link to iheartradio.com/RisingStar or the link to macysrisingstar.iheartradio.com as part of their profile on their Twitter pages.  Maybe Chuck or Darren should do the same for their http://weplaycomputers.com/ site, and the Twitter accounts of Darren, Chuck and Computer Games?

FUTURE ASIAN & PACIFIC HISTORY MONTH: DARREN CRISS’ MULTIFACETED TAKEOVER

May 11, 2017

The singer-actor-festival-creator is conquering different fields of Hollywood and doing so with grace and pride.

Fuse is celebrating Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month by looking at a variety of rising forces who are creating Future Asian and Pacific History before our eyes. While many have entered and gained a mega boost of fame from their Glee days, few are making the variety of impact that Darren Criss is today.

Since his days of playing the beloved Blaine Anderson in the Dalton Academy Warblers, Criss has since gone on to conquer a slew of different areas in Hollywood. He’s left his mark in the worlds of…and take a deep breath here…music (releasing a solo EP and currently promoting with his ‘80s-inspired duo Computer Games), Broadway (acting in successful stints with How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Hedwig and the Angry Inch), television (appearing in The Flash, Supergirl, and landing a role in the upcoming American Crime Story series), movies (making his feature film debut in Girl Most Likely alongside Kristen Wiig and Annette Bening), and even festival curation (he co-founded the annual Broadway-pop festival Elsie Fest). All the while, Criss has continued to be staunch advocate and ally to the LGBTQ community, being a major supporter to The Trevor Project, and speaking out for organizations like Rock the Vote, UNICEF, and Amnesty International. Got all that?

Furthermore, Criss acts a shining success story of the underrepresented Asian American community in Hollywood. Along with his brother and Computer Games band mate Chuck, Darren told Fuse about the pride they have from being raised by a Filipino mother. “As you get older and you meet people who have other cultural backgrounds, you start to realize the differences and you either enjoy that difference or maybe it drives you nuts,” Darren shares in the video above. “I happen to really enjoy the fact that we’re half-Filipino, mainly because it’s such a sneak attack. Most people think we’re straight-up white kids.”

With his projects boasting as much range as his multi-octave voice, there’s no doubt that Darren Criss can continue his multifaceted approach to taking over Hollywood and doing so with major pride for his culture and background.

DARREN AND CHUCK CRISS OF COMPUTER GAMES ON MAKING MUSIC AS BROTHERS AND EMBRACING CHEESY DANCE MUSIC.

05/11/17

Music has always been at the center of brothers Darren and Chuck Criss' lives, but it took them in different directions. 32-year-old Chuck made a name for himself in the indie rock scene as a part of the band Freelance Whales and his 2013 solo album. For 30-year-old Darren, the first taste of success came from founding a musical theater production company called Starkid Productions--and then in the role of Blaine Anderson on Fox's little music club show, Glee. However, creating a project as brothers has always been in their minds. Now, Chuck and Darren Criss have finally decided to release some of the music they had been making together over the years under the moniker Computer Games. While the brothers aren't sure how long Computer Games will last (a full-length is still up in the air), their EP Lost Boys Life pays homage to their childhood love of pop music, playing video games, and cheesy '80s synths.

[. . . ]

What other projects have you guys been working on? Chuck, have you been working on any other musical projects since Freelance Whales? Darren, have you been working on any TV projects since Glee?

Chuck: I was working on a lot of music on my own post-Whales. The more I did it, the more it started to fit Computer Games. I was like, "I should work on this with Darren."

Darren: Before Glee, my main squeeze was my group Starkid. Basically, out of college, my big break was an internet comedy group that changed my life. Starkid was my musical, creative outlet. That's when I realized I could be a songwriter for a living, which is why I eventually ended up writing songs for Glee. The last songs I wrote was right when I joined Glee. That was the last Billboard record I had. Anyway, that was my outlet for writing songs. Right after Glee, I have a singer-songwriter EP in the can, which I'm waiting to put out later this year. I was originally going to put out the singer-songwriter EP at the same time I put out the Computer Games EP. After being absent for a while, I didn't want to confuse fans or people who weren't familiar with myself, to focus on one thing at a time. I have a TV pilot I've been in development with for a while. There's a lot percolating. That's also why it was important to get Computer Games out, because it's only three songs. We thought it was cool to put out the songs, tour and let it incubate before we put out a full-length. We're using the "figuring it out as we go" model.

Is this a one-off project?

Darren: It could be, but I hope it's not. It's a promise Chuck and I made to each other as teenagers. We're doing it for us. We hope people like it, but if it doesn't catch on, there's no harm done. This is a total passion project. We hope there's enough interest where we can keep it going at some level. While I hope it isn't a one-off project, we're open to all avenues.

Yes, I'm very much looking forward to their "surprise" during their Facebook Live session after the AIDS walk in NY.  If it is a new music video for "Every Single Night," I think it's a safe bet that it'll be a fun and wacky video.   :amused   And for StarKid fans like you, Lilikoiluv, you will be seeing familiar faces in that video (if a new music video turns out to be the "surprise"), along with Mia's appearance too.  :happy face   Maybe you can explain to us who's who of the StarKids in the video (again, if that actually turns out to be their  "surprise").

First and foremost, Darren and Chuck's new music video for "Every Single Night" is everything I wanted, and more!!   The epitome of fun, the type of music video that just has Darren's delightful, quirky personality stamped onto it, that just oozes joy, energy, laughter, and friendship.   oh yeah dance! clapping hands  I just really love it!  I recognize some of the folks in the music video, of course Mia, and Curt Mega (also was on Glee, of course), and some StarKids.  Hopefully, Lilikoiluv can match the folks in each costume with a name for us.

Watch Darren Criss & His Brother Chuck Dance Like No One's Watching in Computer Games' 'Every Single Night' Video

5/21/2017

Computer Games, Darren Criss’ alt-pop band with his brother Chuck, released a music video for their track “Every Single Night” on Sunday (May 21).

Reminiscent of Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” music video, Computer Games’ new video features the band and friends grooving against a solid-colored background in mouse suits, sequined mermaid tails, unicorn horns and more

Throughout the video, the sibling duo wears turtleneck sweaters that look like they could have been borrowed from The Wiggles, but they fit in perfectly against everyone else’s crazy attire, including pirate costumes and a drummer with a baby doll strapped to his chest.

“Every Single Night” is featured on Computer Games’ debut EP, Lost Boys Life, which arrived in March 2017.

Check out the new music video below:

And a nice article from People.  I'm guessing that Darren was talking about the hard work involved with writing lyrics, creating melodies, producing, rehearsing and fine-tuning music when he said being an artist and in a band is [sometimes] a pain.  That was said in that context (although I do like it more and I think it's a better idea in terms of promoting his music, when Darren frames his comments in a positive light).  And then Darren went on to say that they try to include fun in the creative process, such as when they made the video.  :happy face   I like that Chuck said they want their music to be inclusive and unapologetically fun.

Darren and Chuck Criss Release 'Unapologetically Fun' New Music Video

May 21, 2017

Quoting what the Beatles said at the height of their fame in the ’60s, Darren and Chuck Criss are “just having a laugh” as they bring their own band, Computer Games, full speed ahead.

PEOPLE joined the brothers on set for their new music video for “Every Single Night,” and there was no shortage of laughs as they enlisted the help of their childhood and college friends to dress up as unicorns, mermaids and pirates.

“Being an artist, and being a band, it’s such a pain in the ass,” says Darren. “We might as well try and have as much fun as possible, so that’s what we’re trying to accomplish with the creative process.”

Chuck adds of their music: “We want it to be inclusive and just unapologetically fun.”

The band’s upbeat tune is already being pegged the “song of the summer” — an acknowledgment the two don’t take lightly as they join the ranks of their all-time favorite songs of summers past, including Len’s “Steal My Sunshine” and Smash Mouth’s “All Star.”

“Put that on my tombstone: ‘Writer of song of the summer before the summer starts,'” jokes Chuck. “To hold that title would be a dream come true, honestly. To me, that’s my favorite song of the year. There’s always that one summer song.”

Darren continues: “It’s a really democratic process. There’s no Grammy attached to it, it’s pretty undisputed. The idea of making that many people have a good time with a beer in their hand by the pool — that’s bulletproof. You can’t take that away from somebody.”

Though Computer Games is the first official project the brothers have collaborated on, they grew up playing and creating music together in their hometown of San Francisco.

“Chuck and I were always close, but once we started playing music together, rock or pop music in our basement, that really augmented our relationship,” Darren explains. “That became the backbone of the way we connected to each other.”

[. . . ]

Their late ’80s and early ’90s pop infused sound wasn’t intentional, but as they recorded their songs and a sound took shape, they embraced it.

“While I can’t ever possibly think we’re on the same level as Quincy Jones‘ production, those are the things we try to shoot for as far as sonic layering and making things as big and fun as possible,” says Darren.

Since Darren has been busy in other aspects of the entertainment industry, including appearing as Versace’s killer in FX’s upcoming Versace: American Crime Story, the two decided it would be best to go an independent route as opposed to signing with a label.

“I don’t know that we’d be able to accomplish what we did with this EP if we had been with a label,” Darren says. “It’s mainly the freedom of choices especially with all the other things we have going on.”

[. . . ]

“We share the same musical vocabulary so there are no road blocks when we’re exchanging ideas,” says Chuck, as Darren chimes in with an example: “It should sound like this song from this album mixed with that episode of Seinfeld.”

Chuck responds: “And that makes sense to me. There’s less embarrassment about bad ideas. What makes things hard is Darren is a very busy guy and has a ton of energy. I’m a father to kids — I spent one weekend with Darren and I come back like, ‘I’m going to have the flu for nine weeks.'”

In the end, the two are just hoping to have fun.

“I turned a corner a couple of years ago where I so desperately wanted to be my heroes, but the truth is I’ll never be anywhere close to my heroes and my heroes will never ever be me. And that’s ok,” says Darren. “All the people who were profound and did something amazing were just being themselves so if our particular variable to the equation is being fun and silly, then so be it. We hope that has a positive impact on it’s own.”

Computer Games is currently nominated as one of Macy’s iHeartRadio Rising Stars and is competing to open the 2017 iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas in September. Fans can vote for Computer Games here.

The Lost Boys Life EP is out now.

Interesting point that is made about the freedom that comes with being an independent artist, in terms of not having that pressure to devote this amount of time NOW to an album, especially since Darren also has acting projects.  I think being an independent artist also takes a lot of pressure off on Chuck and Darren, in terms of not having to meet a record label's (high) expectations of having a hit single or album, and racking up the sales numbers to a certain level which may dictate that their  music has to have a particular commercial appeal to the masses.    Another side bonus is that Darren and Chuck are free to make wacky, joyous music videos that fit their own personalities.   :love

And I love how consistently Darren sends the message that the most important thing is to be true to oneself, to be yourself.  heart

And lol to Chuck's comment that Darren has so much energy and has such a busy schedule that after spending one weekend with his brother, Chuck just wants to have the flu for nine weeks.  Razz :lol

Darren and Chuck's Facebook Live session on May 21:

Thank you, dailydarrennews!  The video is pretty funny.  They are funny together.  Can you imagine how entertaining they were when they were kids to their parents?   Just imagine their parents scolding them when they were kids or teenagers for something, but really, their parents are laughing inside.  :amused

Cute little video of the two brothers.  It's nice seeing the affection they have for each other, and how at ease they are with each other.  Nice family. It must warm the hearts of Mama and Papa Criss to see them together like this. :happy face

I like the music video.

Imo, it's interesting that they wear outfits from the time they were kids, as the artistic context of their childhood seems be to be the core of their band's universe. It's also nice they brought friends on the set, especially as these friends are known from the fans, who can have fun recognizing the guests.

Nonetheless, I would have been happier with a more cinematographic video (something like the one for his cover of You should be dancing, for example), with a retro gaming vibe like the lyrics video. I also think Darren's acting is underexploited in this clip.

Now, I still have to watch the Facebook Live session. I'm gonna do that in the next weeks :happy face

I would be happy with a music video that tells a (short) story too.  Hopefully, they will do one of those types of music videos for their next EP/album.   And yes, this video didn't really have much acting, mostly, just them being themselves with their friends.  I also enjoy music videos with acting of a plot.  :happy face

A couple new designs of shirts for Computer Games merchandise.  I would buy the different brightly colored turtle necks design if it was on a t-shirt.

It also may be a reference to the turtles in Mario :

I think Darren and Chuck said they played Super Mario Land when they were kids.
