I would expect "Runnin Home to You" to get Pasek and Paul an Emmy nomination and possibly (hopefully) an Emmy win.  The melody and the lyrics are beautiful, and Grant did a wonderful job bringing it to life, with his singing and his acting.

The Hollywood Reporter wrote:
What Was the Best Musical Performance During the 'Flash' and 'Supergirl's' 'Duet'?

March 22, 2017

THR ranks the super songs from The CW's DC Comics musical crossover

DC Comics villain the Music Meister made his live-action debut on Monday's episode of Supergirl and headed over to The Flash for a two-show, two-night musical crossover that featured multiple performances from both show's multitalented casts.

Glee
grad Darren Criss took on the role of the Music Meister, a new type of "villain" who insisted everyone follow his musical script or die. The episode also served as a reunion for Criss with his former Glee co-stars, The Flash's Grant Gustin and Supergirl's Melissa Benoist, who both showed off their vocal skills during the two-night crossover.

Below, The Hollywood Reporter takes a closer look at the musical moments from The Flash's "Duet" episode, ranking each performance from glee club to Tony worthy.

[. . . ]

1. "Put a Little Love in Your Heart"

This rendition of the late-1960s hit was just what the crossover needed to make it a true TV musical experience. As the second number of the hour, it featured a big dance sequence with an impressive group of background performers. Criss' natural ability to perform shined through — and the Music Meister was even able to get a reluctant Barry to start grooving to the music. Jordan and The Flash’s Carlos Valdes also delivered some impressive musical stylings. The overall performance paired with the underlying theme of the entire episode takes this track to the top of our list.

"Duet" was a good way to kick off more potential musicals for The CW superhero universe in the future, since there is a possibility that the Music Meister could come back to help solve other problems after his sole purpose was to bring two beleaguered couples back together. After all, as Barry’s mother would say, "Musicals have the power to make everything better." It definitely worked out well for this episode.

Darren Criss Army was nice enough to post the review by the Los Angeles Times.

The Los Angeles Times loved the musical crossover episode!  :happy face  To read the entire article, go to Darren Criss Army's link:  http://darrencrissarmy.com/post/158739979452/the-flash-and-supergirl-musical-crossover

Los Angeles Times wrote:
'The Flash' and 'Supergirl' musical crossover kills with cuteness

March 22, 2017

Watching the jaunty episode titled “Duet” was like inhaling pure joy — a saccharine-saturated performance so ridiculously self-aware that both leads Barry “The Flash” Allen (Grant Gustin) and Kara “Supergirl” Danvers (Melissa Benoist) intermittently dropped character to look around the set, as if they too couldn’t believe the charm of what they were creating.

Former “Glee” star Darren Criss was cast as antagonist the Music Meister. He popped into the last few minutes of a previous “Supergirl” episode and “whammied” (yes, whammied) Supergirl into the musical fantasy land.

[. . . ]

Naturally, Supergirl’s National City “Scooby” gang were concerned about said “whammying,” so they crossed over to the alternate dimension that houses Flash and his Central City compatriots. Fortunately, the Flash was also whammied by the Meister and — presto! — the musical crossover was set.

Although the rationale behind the villain’s evil scheme wasn’t entirely coherent — he wanted to drain their powers while making them understand love, or something? — it didn’t need to be. Criss was put in this episode for two reasons: to look good in red suspenders and to sing. And he did both quite well.

[. . . ]

If you’re going to do a musical episode on television and compete with legendary greats like “Once More With Feeling” from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” or “The Nightman Cometh” installment of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” the key is to commit.

“The Flash” accomplished this by doubling down with a happy ending that wound up with the title character proposing to his love interest, Iris West (Candice Patton), through song. The number, penned by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (who just won an Oscar for “City of Stars” from “La La Land”), hits hard when the world’s fastest superhero starts crooning “Runnin’ Home to You.”

“Duet” was sweet, sweet cheese. It was a kitten delivering a Hallmark card with the words “you’re purr-fect” spelled out in glitter. But it knew it and steered into the delightful.

In a TV world awash in procedural dramas and murder mysteries, sometimes it feels pretty great to take a song break.

heh.  "To look good in red suspenders."  Razz

This rehearsal looks perfect.  Darren and John Barrowman look perfectly synced in their movements.  I love how sharp Darren's movements are.  Boy has some dance moves! applause

I watched Darren on The Late Late Show with James Corden (March 21, 2017) on my TV set today.  I thought he was charming and did a good job.   I'm glad he got to do a quick plug of Computer Games near the end of the interview, although it was a bit of a challenge for him to say as much as he wanted to say about the EP, because both James and Allison Williams (Girls) were pretty verbal (and interrupted Darren a bit).  I guess when the host feels strongly about expressing his thoughts, you just have to go with the flow (even if that means you may not get to say all you would like to).   Loved the beginning of the interview where Darren told James about how he (Darren) was a fan of the show since it began (2 years ago) and even saw James on Broadway (I had no idea James was on Broadway).  haha!  I laughed (as did James and Reggie Watts) at the beginning of the interview, when Darren said that 2 years ago, he thought it was a shame because he didn't think that the show would make it (because of its focus on musical theater), but at least they had Reggie Watts!  :amused   Also loved the story about Allison:  When a college student at Yale, she politely asked Darren to not perform the same song she was planning to sing at a Whiffenpoof concert (at the Lincoln Center?).   To his great credit, Darren honored her request and did not perform that song.   James was impressed, exclaiming to Darren:  "What a gentleman!" and the audience seemed impressed too.   That's not too surprising that Darren helped Allison that night, because it is like Darren to be so kind, but when you think of it, most celebrities would not have done the same thing, so I am very proud of him for that gesture.

I'm so glad that he is coming onto these shows, first Conan (2nd time) and now with James Corden.   :happy face

Actually, The Flash's Music Meister has almost nothing to do with Batman's Music Meister.

And, if I have a good memory, Darren's character haven't introduced himself as the MM. I think Barry just gave him that nickname.

In most of the episodes of The Flash, the villains are given an interesting name by folks on the the Flash's team, mostly Cisco, but also Barry and others.  The villains are based on villains that are well known from the world of DC comics.

I don't know, it's a little tricky when these two current TV shows (The Flash and Supergirl), that are based on DC Comics, have a character appear with the same name as a particular villain of an earlier DC Comics-based TV series (the DC animated series, Batman, The Bold and the Brave:  The Mayhem of the Music Meister).  Also, the Music Meister made an appearance in a comic book based on the same animated series.  So it's not a surprise that some folks (including some of those who wrote reviews of the episode) who know about the MM character from the earlier DC animated TV series, and from the comic book for that earlier series, may have formed certain expectations.

I'm not a big DC comics fan, so I personally don't really care that much if the character in The Flash musical episode strays from the Music Meister character of the animated series and its comic book.

However, I did enjoy how colorful the character was in the animated series, and I would have loved if that was even more of an emphasis in this musical crossover episode.  Just my own personal preference.  (I'm sure others may disagree.)  The costume is just one detail.   I really did think the musical crossover episode was wonderfully executed, and I enjoyed immensely Darren's portrayal of the character on the show.  I think both Darren and the show runners of The Flash did a fantastic job!  :happy face

Thank you for your post. As I don't watch The Flash (yet?), I didn't know that.

And I'm totally fine with Darren's character, I actually love him. I was just a bit surprised, as the comments before the airing made expect a more literal adaptation of the Batman vilain.

Hey, Jeremy, I want to amend my comment about how villains on The Flash are often given names by folks on the Flash's team, mostly by Cisco.  I think this was true in Season 1.  But there are also characters/villains, and this comes to my mind during seasons 2 and 3, that already have their names, like Zoom and Savitar.  It is true that the villains on the TV show are well known in the world of DC Comics.
