Two-time Emmy nominee and Broadway alum Darren Criss has recruited a talent-packed group of stars to take part in the 2018 edition of his outdoor musical celebration Elsie Fest. The annual event is scheduled to take place on October 7 at Central Park SummerStage in New York City. Doors will open at 5:00pm with the festival scheduled to run from 6:00-10:00pm.
The lineup of 2018 Elsie Fest performers will include two-time Tony winner Sutton Foster (Younger, Sweet Charity), three-time Tony nominee Joshua Henry (Carousel) and Criss’ fellow Glee alum Alex Newell (Once On This Island). They’ll be joined Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright and Tony nominee Jodi Benson (Crazy for You, The Little Mermaid).
Cast members from the upcoming Broadway musical comedy The Prom and the off-Broadway musical Be More Chill and will also offer up performances, with a number to be performed from the movie musical Anna and the Apocalypse. Famed West Village piano bar Marie’s Crisis will return to lead festival-wide singalongs.
Created by Criss, Elsie Fest is a one-day outdoor music festival that celebrates stars and songs from the stage and screen, giving festival-goers a unique experience to enjoy their favorite musicals. Additional performers and guests will be announced at a later time.

I guess the off-Broadway show Be More Chill is sold out! Also, it looks like some other folks/friends have signed on as Producers. Executive Producers include Eleni Gianulis, Dr. Sidney J. Stern, with Associate Producers Jeff Jernigan of Kraft-Engel Management and Corey Lubowich. And that list of previous performers at Elsie Fest is pretty impressive! This year's Elsie Fest is underway!
It has been announced that the festival will be led by Two-time Tony Award winning actress, singer and dancer Sutton Foster (TV Land's Younger, ABC Family's Bunheads, Anything Goes, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Violet ), three-time Tony Award nominee Joshua Henry (Hamilton, Carousel, Violet, Shuffle Along,The Gershwin's Porgy and Bess), Emmy nominated songwriter, musician and actor Darren Criss (The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, Hedwig and the Angry Inch) and actor and Atlantic Records recording artist Alex Newell (Glee, Once on this Island).
The festival will feature special guest performances by Grammy nominated singer, songwriter and composer Rufus Wainwright (Prima Donna and Hadrian Operas, Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall), star of CW's THE FLASH, Grant Gustin and Tony nominated actress and Disney legend Jodi Benson (The Little Mermaid, Crazy For You), among others. Cast members from the sold out Off-Broadway hit Be More Chill, highly anticipated upcoming Broadway musical comedy The Prom and Orion Pictures' movie musical Anna and the Apocalypse will also perform. Z100's Elvis Duran will host the one-day outdoor music festival celebrating stars and songs from the stage and screen on Sunday, October 7 at Central Park SummerStage in New York City. Additional performers and guests to be announced.

Broadway alum Darren Criss is one busy man. Not only did he just win an Emmy for The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story and is about to launch a tour of the West Coast with former Glee co-star and fellow Broadway alum Lea Michele, but he is also getting ready to put on the fourth edition of his acclaimed outdoor musical theater festival Elsie Fest. While appearing on the October 2 episode of Broadway.com’s daily live Facebook news show #LiveAtFive, Criss talked about his passion for Elsie Fest, his love of Broadway and his plans for what’s next.
Criss, who has appeared on Broadway in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, created Elsie Fest in 2015 as a way to showcase Broadway stars in a music-festival format. Over the years, the outdoor concert has turned into a staple Broadway event, leaving Criss even more excited for this year’s star-packed edition. “We’re putting on this concert to celebrate this confluence of pop culture and musical theater and where they meet—and it’s so cool,” he said. “I was doing press for Elsie [Fest] and this guy was like, 'I’m going to be honest with you, I didn’t know Sutton Foster could sing,’ and I was like, 'WHAT?’ I love bringing these different worlds together.”

Since Criss is currently preparing for Elsie Fest’s big night on October 7, we couldn’t help but ask about when we’ll see him on Broadway next. “Broadway is always the goal,” he said. “I think the itch that has become the most itchy—the itchiest itch that has grown more itchy over the years—is that I have to write another musical, I have to. It’s probably my favorite form of writing. That has to happen, and it will happen. It just takes some time. Coming to you on Broadway in five to 10 years from now.”

And Rufus's voice is so gorgeous and emotional. So beautiful. And such nice harmonies with Darren! I love how Rufus and Darren thank each other--such sweet souls. And this is my favorite version of "Tomorrow." (And such a fitting song for this point of time in my country--we just need to hold onto hope that some day, tomorrow will be a better day.) And I love how much he's smiling at the fan's (vocal) support and how he's making eye contact with fans. I still think that song should have won an Emmy. Such lovely words.
