Nick Jonas Turns Playwright as VIPs Turn Out for a First-Time Table Read (EXCLUSIVE)At the Chateau Marmont, Darren Criss and Molly Shannon were among the cast for a debut reading of a dramatic play the singer-actor has penned.
I didn't post the entire article here, so you can click on the link to see the entire article. It's a nice piece . . . go ahead . . . click the link!
Okay, first off, Darren wasn't busy enough this Emmy Awards weekend, so he had to also participate in a Table Read for Nick Jonas' play?! Oh Darren!
BUT, this actually sounds intriguing. It is an
original dramatic play and they did a table reading for some "3 dozen studio executives and film producers."
Here's hoping that the table read was well received and that the table read generated some interesting prospects for taking this play to the next level for Nick. . . with Darren involved, of course.
Since his name was listed first, I take it that he probably was the lead or one of the leads?
I think this is just the kind of project Darren would enjoy being a part of--from table read, to workshopping the play out-of-town, to hopefully an off-Broadway/Broadway run. That would be awesome!
But, of course, my imagination is getting away from me (shocking, I know
) . . . but one can hope and imagine!
Edited to Add (ETA): Darren getting to portray Larry Gelbart in the BlackList production above tickles me no end! Larry Gelbart was a prolific writer for tv shows, movies, and stage. He was the creator/producer of M*A*S*H, Tootsie, A Funny thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Oh God!, and so many other classic tv shows, movies, and stage productions! I saw a few little clips from the read, and Darren portrayed Larry Gelbart's persona well!
