But we all worked it out so he was able to get out and commit pretty much a year to it. And he was great. Brad and Nina went to see him in “Hedwig” and he knew they were in the audience so of course he came out and sat on Brad’s lap and did the whole showbiz thing.

Ok. . . what other show was Darren getting ready to do?!   Ryan, don't leave us hanging!   

Was it Royalties?   I personally think it was Royalties because: 
(1)  Lin and I were chatting about this, and I think it is significant.  (BTW everyone, Lin has a fantastic memory--she remembers all Darren-related info!)  Darren had posted on instagram on September 18, 2016, his haircut.   I think the haircut is for TV, since he did something very similiar when he was cast on Glee.   It could be for Versace, but  I think the haircut is probably not for Versace since Versace is limited to 9 (8?) episodes.

Even Darren's use of alliteration--"dapperDarren" on September 18, 2010-- and then "clean cut Criss" on September 18, 2016 are parallels, as well as what Lin said, the two postings of his two haircuts happening not just on the same date of September 18, but being posted within the same hour . . . I doubt it's all coincidence.


(2)  Darren is very careful about not announcing his projects until the last minute, when he's very sure they will get done.  I don't think he would have mentioned (at the SF concert on November 30, 2016, at Feinstein's at the Nikko) about selling the pilot script unless he knew that the project would proceed further (note:  he also tweeted about the project too):

(3)  Jonathan Gabay (Vice President of comedy development and programming), and the writer Patrick Carlyle tweeted about the project, and they (along with writer Allyn Rachel, as well as Gail Berman, Joe Earley and Dani Gorin of The Jackal Group, which is a production group) all went to see Darren in Hedwig and the Angry Inch in  L.A. (November 2016)
(4)  Darren mentioned Royalties during an interview in May 2017, suggesting that this project may still be in development (I mean, he didn't say the project was over). 


Darren mentioned Royalties during an interview focusing primarily on Computer Games.  It sounds like it still may be a possibility (maybe not for this Fall, but maybe for the following season)?   I had wondered if because Darren had a 4-5 month commitment to film Versace, then that meant Royalties could not be developed for this season since Darren would be unavailable.

What other projects have you guys been working on? Chuck, have you been working on any other musical projects since Freelance Whales? Darren, have you been working on any TV projects since Glee?

Darren: Before Glee, my main squeeze was my group Starkid. Basically, out of college, my big break was an internet comedy group that changed my life. Starkid was my musical, creative outlet. That's when I realized I could be a songwriter for a living, which is why I eventually ended up writing songs for Glee. The last songs I wrote was right when I joined Glee. That was the last Billboard record I had. Anyway, that was my outlet for writing songs. Right after Glee, I have a singer-songwriter EP in the can, which I'm waiting to put out later this year. I was originally going to put out the singer-songwriter EP at the same time I put out the Computer Games EP. After being absent for a while, I didn't want to confuse fans or people who weren't familiar with myself, to focus on one thing at a time. I have a TV pilot I've been in development with for a while. There's a lot percolating. That's also why it was important to get Computer Games out, because it's only three songs. We thought it was cool to put out the songs, tour and let it incubate before we put out a full-length. We're using the "figuring it out as we go" model.

All just my speculation, but that's my position.    Anyone want to weigh in on this topic?
