Ryan Murphy knows how to cut together a 30-second promo, we’ll give him that. FX has released a brief teaser featuring Darren Criss in a Speedo to remind you that The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story premieres on January 17. The series stars Edgar Ramirez as Gianni Versace, Penelope Cruz as Donatella Versace, Ricky Martin as Antonio D’Amico, and Darren Criss as the murderer Andrew Cunanan, who will apparently be wet, well-muscled, and wearing a Speedo. Okay, Ryan, we get it.

A Guide to the Serial Killers (and Infamous Murderers) Taking Over Film and TV
November 3, 2017
From Jack the Ripper to John Wayne Gacy to Aileen Wuornos, the horrific legacies of serial killers have managed to both appall and intrigue, as people attempt to explore and understand the darkest depths of the human psyche. Hollywood has mined this territory for years, with dozens of scripted true-crime movies and TV series exploring the “why” of those who snap.
But why are we so obsessed? Alex Wolff, who stars in the new movie My Friend Dahmer, about the high school years of the notorious mass murderer Jeffrey Dahmer, has a theory. “People are interested in seeing how things happen and maybe finding out what things could be different,” he tells ET. “Like, what is it about him that’s so different from me, or my next-door neighbor who seems a little bit off? That’s why people are interested in seeing the birth of things like this -- for their own comfort, for their own life. It’s very easy to write people off as monsters, but it’s more interesting to examine them as people who did horrible things.”

The fashion designer’s shocking murder gets a star-studded treatment from Ryan Murphy, who turned American Crime Story’s first installment -- focused on the O.J. Simpson trial -- into a pop-culture phenomenon. Former Glee star Darren Criss steps into the role of glib gigolo Cunanan, who went on a murder spree in 1997, killing five men during a cross-country reign of terror, the last of whom was Versace on the front steps of his Miami home. Cunanan committed suicide eight days later, leaving no suicide note and no motive for his crimes.
... not really. First on the call sheet is the lead, but of course we knew he was "a" lead and I don't know how the order is determined if there is more than one. I probably would have guessed Edgar would be first just because he plays the more known figure. So I don't know if it "means" anything in this case. Could be that Darren has the larger role, but for all I know it could be some random factor like who was officially hired first or who speaks first in the first episode... I'm just making these up, I really have no idea. I just thought it was nice to see him listed as #1.Poppy wrote:Hey Lin, can you explain to me the significance of being the first on a call sheet for a TV show? Thank you!

Anyway, now I watch AHS, I'd like to see him in one of the upcoming seasons... But I know you don't feel the same way about it
Lin wrote:He's probably killing some time between scenes. The ACS and AHS sets are right next to each other and I think he's friends with the guy in the middle (he also just went to San Diego this week to see him in a play).

Fall TV Report Card: How's the New Class Doing?
Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders (NBC)
Airs: Tuesdays at 10/9c
The good: After suffering a big drop in its second week, the series has stabilized around 4.9 million and a 1.1. And since it's an anthology series, no matter how low it might go, it'll get to finish its run (it wraps Nov. 14). Oh, and Edie Falco is just as phenomenal as you'd expect.
The bad: Dick Wolf's foray into non-fiction is hardly the second coming of American Crime Story. True Crime is not as deep or as well made. A second season has not yet been ordered and Wolf hasn't settled on a new old case yet. But the good thing about an anthology series is you get to start fresh every time — perhaps with a new timeslot too. It makes sense on paper for NBC to want to launch this behind its biggest show, This Is Us, but the programs are so tonally different. It's quite an adjustment to go from crying about Jack's possible death in a house fire to two kids murdering their parents.
Prognosis: A new season with a new case will probably happen, even if it's not on next fall season.
I only watched the first episode of this, but I agree that the production value/cinematography/storytelling didn't compare at all to the first season of ACS.Poppy wrote:A little off-topic, but I read this article and thought I would share because of the comment about American Crime Story:TV Guide wrote:

Interesting, I was wondering what that was supposed to be (other than just a "V" for Versace?). It also sort of like dark angel wings, as does his shadow in the other gif, but I'm not sure that's intentional.Poppy wrote: I like how in this promo video, as Cunanan walks through the pool, it appears as if a trail of blood is left in his wake.

I'm really really impatient, so I checked when the first trailer for season 1 came out to get an idea of when we might be able to expect one for this season - it was two months before the first episode. Also they premiered the first Versace teaser during the first episode of AHS and a new one every other week since, so I'd at least expect another teaser in two weeks, but since it's the finale it just makes sense to me to pair it with a real trailer that they would probably release around that time frame anyway.
I hope they agree with my reasoning. Unless of course they want to release it earlier, I'd be okay with that too.
